Emerald Textiles wins the Industrial Category Award for Energy Efficiency and Conservation at the 6th Annual SDG&E Energy Showcase.

SAN DIEGO, CA – May 18, 2011 – Emerald Textiles, a leading Southern California commercial healthcare laundry provider, has been recognized by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) as an Energy Champion in the Industrial category for energy efficiency and conservation at the 6th Annual Energy Showcase. View the two minute video here. The Energy Champions combined saved more than 55 million kilowatt hours this year, which provides an energy and environmental impact equal to removing 3,187 cars from our roadways.

“Emerald Textiles is committed to saving natural resources in Southern California” said Tom Gildred, founder and chief executive officer of Emerald Textiles. “Emerald is one of the most environmentally responsible choices in commercial healthcare laundry, because of our commitment to sustainable, energy efficient technology, processes and products. We are proud to be a good corporate citizen and work with SDG&E as they help businesses transform their energy usage by utilizing the latest technologies.”

Emerald Textiles’ San Diego facility is one of the most technologically advanced healthcare laundry processing plant in the United States. Emerald is housed in an 111,000 square-foot industrial building outfitted with the latest energy efficient equipment throughout the facility. Technology-driven, automated and environmentally friendly, the plant saves 40 million gallons of water and more than 700,000 therms of natural gas annually for the region.

Emerald Textiles achieves this superior energy efficiency and is, at the same time, fully compliant with all federal, state and industry standards. It is the first commercial laundry in San Diego to provide 100-percent separation between the soil and clean areas of the plant, supported by positive air flow and automated processes.

“SDG&E is proud to honor Emerald Textiles as an Energy Champion,” said Hal Snyder, vice president of customer solutions for SDG&E. “The energy savings they have achieved is remarkable, and we commend Emerald’s vision and dedication to conserving our natural resources.”
